By Air

Akola Airport also known as Shivani Airport is the domestic airport of Akola city at an elevation of 304 m.The airport is just 7 km away from the city on National Highway number 6. The nearest domestic airport is at Nagpur.Renovation and operation of Akola airport is taken by Airport Authority of India.

By Train

Akola railway junction, situated on both the Mumbai-Bhusawal-Wardha-Nagpur-Howrah rail line and the Kacheguda-Jaipur meter gauge line, is an important junction for passengers from North and South India and also for freight trains. Broadgauging of Akola-Purna, Akola - Indore Junction MG and Akola - Indore Junction BG - Ratlam railway line under Unigauge has recently completed and passenger train have started running on this route. Important railway stations in Akola region with their codes are Paras, Gaigaon, Akola Junction (AK), Murtajapur Junction (MZR) and are under Bhusawal-Badnera Section of Bhusawal Division of Central Railway.

The other stations under meter gauge are Hiwarkhed (HWK), Adgaon Buzurg (ABZ), Akot (AKOT), Patsul (PTZ), Ugwe (UGWE), Akola Junction, Shivani Shivpur (SVW), Barshitakli (BSQ), Lohogad (LHD), Amna Vadi (AMW), Jaulka (JUK) are under Purna - Khandwa Section of South Central Railway.

By Road

The "NH6" runs through Akola from Hajira (Surat) to Kolkata. NH6 is a part of Asian Highway 46. Maharashtra state transport buses are most commonly used by people to travel to rural parts of the region. They are the cheapest means of transport. State-owned and private air-conditioned bus services run daily to most major cities to and from Akola. The bus frequency is good. Very poor road conditions due to political corruption, its becoming slum city.

By Bus

Akola Municipal Transport (AMT) runs Akola's public transport service. Autorickshaw is also widely used in Akola city for city transport. Traffic is generally a problem, in the form of congestion due to increasing number of vehicles, bad roads, stray animals, and a general disregard of traffic rules. Road accidents are often fatal and are very common. The municipal corporation is trying to improve the roads in Akola city through IRDP (Integrated Rural Development Planning). This may create a new face of the city.

Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj

Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj is just 45 km away from Akola. Sant Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan is the biggest temple trust in the Vidarbha region and is called "Pandharpur of Vidarbha". The origin of Sant Gajanan Maharaj is untraceable in history. People from all over Maharashtra visit Shegaon and offer their prayers to Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj.

Narsingh Maharaj Mandir

Narsingh Maharaj Mandir at Akot and Baladevi temple at Balapur both in Akola District are also famous religious temples near Akola. Also in Balapur, 'Chatri' momento by Raja Jaisingh of his horse is famous as well. The Atishay kshatra Shri Antariksh Parshvanath Digambar Jain Temple is situated in Shirpur (Akola District) about 75 km away from Akola. The Black colored idol of Bhagawan Parshvanath is ancient and is famous amongst all Digambar Jain Temples in Maharashtra.

Raj Rajeshwar Temple

Raj Rajeshwar Temple in Akola is done by worshippers of Lord Shiva and has a great historical heritage. During the Marathi calendar month of 'Shravan', there is a large amount of devotees to Lord Shiva, especially on every Monday of the month. The month of Shravan is very sacred according to Hindus, and worshippers travel from long distances to Raj Rajeshwar Temple to worship Lord Shiva.

Narnala Fort

Narnala Fort is an Indian hill fortress in Maharashtra, India. Narnala was one of the thirteen sarkar of Berar Subah. Narnala consists of three small forts named Zafarabad (or Jafarabad) on the east, Narnala in the centre and Teliagarh on the west.The path passes two other strong gateways and one slighter one before entering the heart of the fort, and climbs meanwhile to the uppermost glials. Between the last two gateways are the domed tombs of Bagh Savar Wali and Gaz Badshah. Wali, the former not only rode a tiger in his life but the old Gazetteer slates "even now a tiny white tiger may be seen at night going to and from his tomb." Passing the last gateway one comes almost at once before the Ambar Bangala, the kacheri of former days.

Balapur Fort

Balapur Fort the construction of the present fortress of Balapur which is in ruined condition now, was started by Mirza Azam Shah, die son of Emperor Aurangzeb and was completed by Ismail Khan, the Navab of Ellichpur in 1757 as per old gazetteer of berar indiaThe chhatri, (umbrella-shaped pavilion,) a mausoleum constructed by Mirza Raja Jaysing is a 25 feet square and has a height of 33 feet. Its foundations were much damaged in a great flood called the dhvdya pur which occurred more than 100 years ago, but after some years the damage was repaired at a cost of Rs. 3,000 received from Jaipur.

The Balapur fort is situated about 26km from Akola city, at Balapur a small town located at the junction of the rivers Man and Mhais in central India. A historical town, with a massively built fort, which is probably the strongest in the Vidarbha and Khandesh regions of Maharashtra. The fort was started after 1665 by Azam Shah, the son of Emperor Aurangzeb and was eventually completed by Ismail Khan, who was the Nawab of Ellichpur.The old Gazetteer also mentions that the town contained a mosque of 1737 in Kasarpura. It further states, 'The mosque in Kasarpur is a fair specimen of later Mughal architecture, but the arches arc too squat to be graceful; a long and somewhat bombastic inscription, exceedingly well executed and well preserved, gives as the date of construction of the mosque the year A.H. 1150 (A. D. 1737). The mosque is known as the Ranzah Masjid, for it contains the tomb of a local saint Maulvi Masum Shah.'
