By Air

The airfield of Grimbergen was built and inaugurated in 1939 as a military auxiliary airfield.The invasion of Belgium by German troops attacked the already 18 May 1940 in hostile hands.Commissioned by the Luftwaffe was further expanded.After the liberation in September 1944 the airport was in the hands of the Allies who used to go from 1946 was transferred to the civil authorities.Since then it almost entirely for sport aircraft used.Also Sabena used the airfield for training its pilots.The operation of the flying is now in the hands of the non-profit Recreational Grimbergen Airport.

Prince Castle

The Prince Castle was from the 14th century residence of the lords of Grimbergen.The ruins of the princely castle are located in the Prinsenbos, south of the center of the Flemish municipality of Grimbergen.The water castle was in the early 17th century and was enlarged mid 18th century to about 1900 adjusted.It came in 1757 in possession of the family de Merode who stayed until the French Revolution.It was inhabited by displaced French Norbertinessen from Bonlieu, who lived from 1901 to 1933.The castle remained until 1959 belonged to the family de Merode.In that year they sold the castle and surrounding park to the town of Grimbergen.

Abbey Museum
