By Air

Jodhpur airport is connected to Jaipur, Delhi, Udaipur and Mumbai by daily regular flights. The Airport is nearly 5 km away from the city center. Taxi charges about Rs 150 and three wheeled rickshaw cost about Rs 50 from airport to city. Delhi is the nearest international airport, which is well connected to all major cities in India and abroad. Delhi is nearly 600 km away from Jodhpur.

By Train

The railway station is also the originating point for various trains like Jodhpur - Indore Express, Jodhpur - Bhopal Express, Jodhpur - Puri Express , Mandore Express, Suryanagri Superfast Express etc.

Kaylana Lake

Kaylana Lake is an artificial lake situated 8 km west of Jodhpur. This lake was built by Pratap Singh in 1872. The lake spreads over an area of 84 sq km. In ancient times this region had palaces and gardens made by two rulers of Jodhpur - Bhim Singh and Takhat Singh. These were destroyed to make Kalyana Lake. The Dak Bungalow of the Irrigation department is situated near the lake. Boating facilities are also offered to the tourists.

Mandore garden

with its charming collection of temples and memorials, and its high rock terraces, is another major attraction. The gardens house the Chhatris (cenotaphs) of many rulers of the erstwhile princely state of Marwar. Prominent among them is the chhatri of Maharaja Ajit Singh of Marwar, built in 1793.The Mandore Gardens also house a government museum, a 'Hall of Heroes' and a temple to 33 crore Gods. Various artefacts and statues found in the area are housed at the museum. The 'Hall of Heroes' commemorates popular folk heroes of the region. It contains 16 figures carved out of a single rock. Next door is a larger hall called "The temple of 33 crore Gods" which houses images of various Hindu Gods.

Balsamand Lake

Balsamand Lake is a lake situated 5 km from Jodhpur on Jodhpur-Mandore Road. The lake is the a popular picnic spot. This artificial lake was built in 1159 AD by Balak Rao Parihar. It was a water reservoir to provide water to Mandore. The lake has a length of one kilometre, breadth of 50 metres and a depth of 15 meters.The Balsamand Lake Palace was built later as pleasure or summer palace on its shore. The lake is surrounded by lush green gardens that house groves of trees like mango,papaya, pomegranate, guava and plum and many animals and birds like jackal and peacock.

Umaid Bhawan Palace

Umaid Bhawan Palace is one of the last palaces built in India. It was built in 1944 by Maharaja Umaid Singh. The king was attracted very much to the western style of living. The palace reflects his taste,as it is one of the rare palaces in India whose architecture is distinctly western.The architect of the palace was an English man named Henry Vaughn. The palace is located in the southern part of Jodhpur city. The present day king of Jodhpur, though without any constitutional power, still lives in this palace. Almost half of the palace has been converted into a hotel and another part of the palace into a museum.

Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum

Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum is located inside Umaid Bhawan Palace, which is situated in the southern part of Jodhpur city. The museum is small compared with the one in Mehrangarh Fort. Nevertheless,several artifacts and antiques are on display in this western style building.Weapons used by the kings, a mind-boggling number of stuffed leopards, which were hunted down by the erstwhile kings, a banner said to be presented by Queen of England and an amazing collection of antique clocks are the major attractions of the museum.The museum is open from 9 am to 5 pm. The charge is Rs. 50/- per person.

Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort is one of the most imposing and largest forts not only in Jodhpur but in the whole India. It is a fort that oozes the charm and grandeur of a bygone era. It is situated five kilometres away in a hill in the outskirts of Jodhpur city. Its construction was started around 1459 by the king known as the founder of Jodhpur, Rao Jodha. But he could not complete it in his life time.

Its construction is believed to have been completed by Raja Jeswant Singh in the second half of the 17th century. The walls of the fort have a height of 36 metres and a width of 21 metres. There are several palaces inside the fort. The fort looks magnificent from the city and if you go inside the fort, the fort reciprocates the favour: the city looks unbelievably wonderful from the fort.The fort is open to visitors from 9 am to 5 pm. Entry fee is Rs 250 which includes the charge of using still camera.

Mahamandir Temple

Mahamandir Temple is located two kilometres away from Jodhpur on the road towards Mandore. As the name suggests (Mahamandir means ‘huge temple’), it is a very big temple. It was built in 1812. The fantastically carved 84 pillars in the temple are a sight to behold.One cannot stop admiring the craftsmanship of the ancient sculpturers who made it possible. It is also famous for its intricate works in stone, in which yogic postures are carved out. There are plenty of ancient shrines and houses located in the premises of Mahamandir Temple. The walls and pillars of the temple are studded with expertly designed traditional motifs.

Santhoshi Mata Temple

Santhoshi Mata Temple is situated in Lal Sagar, near Mandore, which is about 10 kilometres away from Jodhpur city. Santhoshi Mata is a goddess worshipped particularly by women in India. There are several Santhoshi Mata temples in various places all over India. But the temple in Jodhpur is considered among devotees as the ‘original temple’.Friday is the most auspicious day for praying in Santhoshi Mata temple. It is widely believed, especially after a 1975 Bollywood super hit film with the name “Jai Santhoshi Maa, that fasting and praying in Santhoshi Mata temple for 16 consecutive Fridays would bring good fortune and luck to the family.
