St John's Church

The St. John's Church, St. John the Baptist in full, in New City is a Roman Catholic church that was originally a chapel was built in the second half of the 13th century . As a variety of local churches, this church is built of marl .The church marks the transition from the Romanesque architecture to Gothic . The nave, and particularly the clerestory , shows unmistakably Romanesque forms. The clerestory contains large round windows. The windows in the aisles are carried out in the forms of the Romanesque style, combined with details that show the Maasland Gothic style attributes. On either side are the eastern bays of the aisles raised to pseudo-transepts. The choir was added in the 14th century and stands in an angle to the longitudinal axis of the vessel.

Castle Millen

Millen Millen castle or house is a ruin by Nieuwstadt in Dutch Limburg , just over the border of the German village of Millen , consisting of a dungeon from the fourteenth century , a piece of outer wall and a heavier wall section .Of the first castle, which in 1287 burned down, nothing more can be found on the motte hill , nor the rebuilding. The castle was reconstructed in 1365 so expired, that the commission gave it to grow again. Probably the present ruin dates back even half of that rebuilding. The last reconstruction was probably in phases. In the battle between Guelders and Charles V, the castle was destroyed by both Maarten van Rossum , and by Rene of Chalon . What really happened here, however, is unknown. The landsdag of Jülich-Cleves-Bergh was agreed that Millen castles Born and abort. Born alone, however, was demolished at that time, Millen was not until the eighteenth century demolished.

Millen himself has a rich past, but the Netherlands has also its own role in history. The latter also applies to the region and the municipality to which it belongs. Millen is the most westerly town in Germany. The early history of Millen is closely linked to that of the Duchy of Jülich . Millen was in the Middle Ages the principal glory of the Selfkant . It was originally the residence of the lords of Millen, who in 1282 became part of the glory Heinsberg . Like Sittard Millen got city rights under the Gelderland Duke William of Julich , also in 1393 after it had become duke of Jülich.
