Dona Paula Beach

The Dona Paula beach is named after Dona Paula de Menzes, the daughter of a Portuguese viceroy, who threw her off the cliff, after she was refused permission to marry a local fisherman. The Dona Paula Beach is well known for sunbath and cheap seaside goods from local vendors. Water sport facilities are available here at the Dona Paula beach, which is a major tourist attraction.

Ruins of St. Augustine's Tower

The tower is one of the four towers of St. Augustine Church that once stood at the site. The original tower was almost forty-six meters high and had four storeys. The Tower was meant to serve as a belfry and the Church had eight richly adorned chapels and four altars and a convent with numerous cells attached to it.

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount in Goa

The Portuguese viceroy Afonso de Albuquerque built the chapel in 1510. The Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount is situated on a hill. A series of steps leads to the Chapel that is built of laterite plastered with lime mortar. The chapel has three main altars dedicated respectively to our lady of the mount, St. Anthony and St. Andrew.

The Church and Convent Of St. Monica

It is a huge three-storied building built of laterite. The construction of the church of St. Monica was commenced in 1606 and completed in 1627. It is square on plan with a large inner courtyard, around which is a cloistered verandah and numerous cells and halls. The vaulted ceilings in some of the halls are tastefully painted with floral decorations and scenes from the Holy bible.

The Convent and Church of St. Francis of Assisi

The Church of St. Francis of Assisi is sited in the same complex, where Se Cathedral is situated. The church is a stunning building, constructed during 1517-1521 AD. A church sanctified to the Holy Ghost was built in 1521 and was later demolished. The present church was then built on the same spot in 1661, maintaining only the foyer of the earlier church.

Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) maintains the museum. The collection consists of hero-stones, Brahmanical sculptures and sati stones belonging to the early and late medieval periods. In addition to this there are coins and currency, portraits, revenue and court fee stamps, bronze and wooden sculptures and armory belonging to the Portuguese period.

Calangute Beach

Located 16 kilometers from Panaji, Calangute beach is popularly known as the "Queen of all Goan beaches". This beach was originally known by the name "kolli gutti", which means "land of fishermen". Due to the Portugal rule, the name got distorted and came to what it is presently known as. The place around sthe Colangute beach is abundant in coconut trees, which add serenity to the scenic surroundings.

Miramar Beach

On the way to the Dona Paula beach, 1-kilometer ahead of the convergence of the Arabian Sea and the Mandovi River, lies the Miramar beach of Goa. The beach is just 3 kilometers from Panaji, the capital of Goa. The Miramar beach is also popularly known as the Gaspar Dias beach.
