By Road

If you travel from Anjuna, Vagator or Chapora beaches, you need to avail a boat for a few kilometres. As you reach the Main Calangute Road, you can switch to private buses. Local transport is quite smooth, but travelling from out of town can prove to be a little hectic. Boatmen sometimes paddle tourists over the estuary from Chapora too, although their dugouts are unstable when laden with passengers, and, they can't carry motorbikes.

Sri Bhagavati and Sri Sapteshwar Temples

Since Pernem is predominantly a Hindu town, there are a number of important temples here. Bhagavati and Sapteshwar Bhagamati at Mandrem are some of the famous temples that attract a large number of devotees especially during the 7 days "Bhajanisaptah" at Mandrem, the Zatra, Dussehra and "Shimgo". Besides the main deities, there are some exquisitely sculptured ancillary deities.

Sri Chandeshwar Temple

The Sri Chandeswar temple is located on the Chandranath hill. The side altar at the Chandeswar temple is that of Sri Bhutnath. The Chandeswar temple has the famous Shiva Linga. It is interesting to note that the temple atop the hill has been designed in such a way that moonlight directly falls on the Shiva Linga on the full moon night.

Sri Morjee Temple

The Sri Morjee temple is situated at Morjim in Pernem Taluka, about 15 Km from Mapusa. "Kalash Utsava" which is celebrated every three, five, seven or nine years, is the main festival at the temple. The festival lasts for about a month. The last seven days of the festival attract a large number of devotees not only from Goa, but also from Sindhudurga in Maharashtra and Karwar in Karnataka. Other festivals that are celebrated at Sri Morjee temple are Dussehra, Gudi Padva, Zatra, Divjam and Ghode Mundim.
