Church of St. Theodore

The Church of St. Theodore known as the Old Cathedral is considered the most important Byzantine monument in the city.The church functioned as a cathedral from the Byzantine until the later years.According to the prevailing view the church dates from the 5th to 6th century.Over the centuries this church has suffered several disasters, alterations, additions and renovations.The temple was destroyed by fire in 1849 and 1913.Specifically, on June 28, 1913 was completely destroyed by fire as they retreated the Bulgarian setting fire to the city.The current version is the restoration that took place in 1928-1935.In 1992 repairs were made new by the Holy Metropolis of Serres and Nigrita collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and is currently used as a place of worship.

Church of Agios Nikolaos on the Acropolis

The Church of St. Nicholas is a two-storey temple, which dates from the 12th century.Is church cemetery with a crypt which lies on the east side.In the temple worship the soldiers of the garrison of the castle and the crypt was the cemetery of those.The current form of church is the restoration of 1937 which was on the ruins of the already damaged the church from the 17th century.The renovation was made by a group of Christians without the opinion of the archaeological service.The church has a different architecture from the old church and grounds of the changes the renovation is not considered completely successful.In 1926 excavations were found remains of frescoes as the representation of Holy Communion and remains jewelery style associated with the era of Palaeologus.

Mehmet Bey Mosque

Mehmet Bey Mosque and Ahmed Pasha, known to the inhabitants of Serres as Hagia Sophia, built in 1492-1493 and is the largest and oldest surviving temples of Serres.Located next to the stream southeast of St. Anarghyri Serres.Rebuilt by Mehmet Bey who was the husband of Princess Seljuk Chatoun (daughter of Bayezid II).The materials that built the monument is the yellow limestone and domes are built with bricks and was covered with lead.The walls inside were gold plated and in accordance with browsers over a garden surrounding the monument.It is not known when it ceased to operate the monument as an Islamic mosque. In the late 19th century, the nearby river floods caused damage to the monument.was a famous mosque during the Ottoman period. According to the Turkish traveler Evliya Celebi Mosque is the best of Rumeli and Persia.

Bezesteni monument

To Bezesteni monument (the word Bezesteni from the Turkish and Persian and translated as cloth market) was closed roofed market in the second half of the 15th century. Located in the center of Serres in 1970 segazetai the Archaeological Museum of Serres.This monument in 1968 escaped demolition when it was decided to house the Archaeological Museum of Serres.

Mustafa Bey Mosque

Mustafa Bey Mosque built in 1519 and is located in Kamenik (the area during the Ottoman Empire was called with a similar name Kamenica).In the same area with a monument there and Ottoman baths.The mosque is threatened by the ravages of time.

Alistrati Cave

Alistrati The cave is one of the largest caves in Europe.The rich decoration includes, apart from huge stalactites and stalagmites in various colors and rare ekkentrites.The ekkentrites or eliktites are rare formations created "defied" the laws of gravity and following irregular paths.The main feature of the cave which makes it unique and the Greek world - the great variety ekkentriton.Also characterized by the unique microscopic organisms (3 chilst).Occurring within it, such as Alistratia Beroni, a unique type of isopod.The corridors have been visited along 3 km.The cave belongs to the network of caves in the gorge of the river Aggiti along with four other known caves, including the famous cave Aggiti (Maara).The cave Alistrati is 6 km southwest of the town of Serres Alistrati, in "Petroto" and is accessible from both the Drama and Kavala and from Thessaloniki (via Serres or Asprovalta).Been used and is visited by 1997.A stone's throw from the technical input of the cave lies the Gorge of the river Aggiti.

Regional Theatre of Patras
