By Train

the railway station are located next to each other in the Industrial zone (the west end of the town).The town is the final railway station on the local railway line Samouil-Silistra (an extension of the Rousse-Varna line) and thus is connected with the national railway system.

By Bus

Silistra has a river station too but for the time being the transportation of passengers along the Bulgarian coast of the Danube has been suspended.Excursion tours along the river are only carried out.There is regular public bus transport.

Kourshoumlou Mosque

is a Muslim shrine in Silistra, a monument of culture.Is called a lead sheet, which is covered dome in.The mosque is considered the third most important in northeastern Bulgaria, Shumen after Tombul Mosque Razgrad and Ibrahim Pasha Mosque.It is believed that it was built in the early 17th century by Arbanassi (Albanian) masters, but repairs are found on older foundations, the building dating back a hundred years ago.Some researchers relate the architecture of the mosque school Kourshoumlou the great Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan.Information on the mosque gives patepisetsat Evliya Celebi during his tour of this part of the Ottoman Empire.Kourshoumlou mosque was the second important standard-bearer in Silistra after mosque.It was built in the early 18th century and was one of the largest mosques in the Bulgarian lands, but was destroyed in a 1940 year after a strong earthquake.In 2004 a project was launched to restore the mosque Kourshoumlou worth 102,000 dollars.One third of them are provided by the Fund of ambassadors to the U.S. Embassy.was restored facades and plaster, murals and door.The mosque opened in 2006 year, but shortly after the city built a new mosque, religious temple again fell into oblivion.Its windows are broken, no sign of display that was repaired with American money. Silistra Historical Museum

Silistra is one of the first cities in Bulgaria, which marks the beginning of the museum. On November 18, 1898 with Protocol № 9 Teacher Pedagogical School Board in deciding to create a museum. On January 11, 1899 the Charter was approved by the then Minister of Education Ivan Vazov, thereby museum is validated.After the occupation of South Dobrudja from Romania in 1913 Silistra museum collection was transferred to Bulgaria and its exhibits within the Sofia Archaeological Museum and the Museum District Rousse. During the Romanian occupation in Silistra has settled two museum collections, which exhibits after the withdrawal of Romanian authorities in 1940 were divided in Romania. But the idea of ​​a museum again realized and October 19, 1941 in the city is based on historical and ethnographic company which in 1943 transferred to the center "Dorostol." In adopted new statutes are listed the main objectives and tasks of the future museum.Over the next decades the museum building new exhibitions and enriching their funds. Medjidi Tabia fortress

is located at hill south of town of  Silistra.The fort is the best preserved of total six facilities of Ottoman fortification system used during Crimean War (1853 - 1856) and Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878).The fortress has hexagon form and reach 8m in high.It was built in period 1841 - 1853 based on plans of the German military engineer Helmuth von Moltke who designed also an other fort near town of Ruse - Levent Tabia.The name of the fortress come from the name of Sultan Abdul Medzhid who visited the facility in 1847.Medjidi Tabia fortress is included in the list "The 100 National Tourist Sites of Bulgaria".

Drastar fortress

is located in borders of modern town of Silistra.In its beginning it probably occurred as a Thracian stronghold which base was used by the Romans to build large and strong fortress-city along the Danube.The town flourished in  the first III-II centuries BC under name Durostorum until 238 when tribes of Karpi destroyed it.Later, in VI century Slavs settled here and the city revived with new strength and power under the name Drastar.

National Kukeri festival

Kukeri is a traditional pagan Bulgarian ritual.The idea is masked men to scare away evil spirits with dances and loud sounds of bells.The costumes of men cover most of the body and include decorated wooden masks of animals (sometimes double-faced) and large bells attached to the belt.The festival is held around New Year and before Lent in many Bulgarian towns and villages but this in village of Kalipetrovo (known also as Kukovden or Kukerlandia) is National and is one of the most popular.

Silistra Art Gallery

is located in center of the town.It is housed in a beautiful building (former pedagogical school) which dates back to 1890 and is in "Late Secession" style.In the gallery are exhibited more than 1500 art works (paintings, prints, sculptures and other) of great Bulgarian artists as Vladimir Dimitrov, Dechko Uzunov, Zlatyu Boyadjiev and others.

International Theatre Laboratory Yan Bibiyan

The International Puppet Theatre Festival Yan Bibian and the International Theatre Laboratory Yan Bibian are held annually in late of May in Silistra.During the festival program groups from different countries performed for the kids.The theatrical laboratory is for the artists and cultural who discuss issues related to the theater and show their creative experiments.In the 2010 the festival was skipped because the global financial crisis and the impossibility of municipality of Silistra to finance the event.
