Tribal cultural Museum

Silva in Portuguese means wood and this is very true as when you drive through Silvassa you will find rows and rows of trees whizzing past you. The landscape here is scenic and beautiful with its meandering rivers, lush forests and cascading hills. The area is still undeveloped and is largely occupied by tribes for whom the forest is their medium of survival. This is a wonderful place to visit before you venture into the interiors of the forests to learn more about these tribes. It is also a great structure as it preserves the rapidly vanishing tribal culture.

The history of these tribes dates back to centuries and their rich culture and history is preserved in the Tribal Cultural Museum is located in the heart of Silvassa. Located near the Tourist Information Centre it was established in the year 2000. It is also called as Chaar Rasta and depicts the socio cultural heritage of the simple tribal folks of the Union Territory. The museum showcases masks, fishing gear, musical instruments, hunting tools, household item, kitchen articles and agricultural implements used by the local tribes for centuries. The main attraction here is the life-size statues of the local tribes and their leaders portraying their lifestyle.

Vandhara Udyan

Just a few kilometers away from Silvassa the Vanganga Lake and Island Garden is a spectacular lake garden. It has a garden on an island which is quite a beautiful sight. Wooden bridges and pretty flowers add too its beauty. For those of you who are keen on fitness can jog along the jogging path laid out here while breathing in the fresh air. There are thatched huts along the garden and paddleboats on the lake. The main attraction here is boating and you can find many people on the paddle boats enjoying the calm waters of the lake. The park which is closed on Tuesdays has its share of couples snuggling in corners as well as families with children frolicking around. There is also the occasional film shooting which takes place here so there is a chance that you might spot a celebrity doing a Bollywood song and dance sequence. There are food joints in the garden so if you get hungry you can grab a bite from here.
