By Air

Solapur city is now connected by airways with Mumbai.It will be connected to other cities after completion of new airport. (IATA code: SSE) Kingfisher Airlines operates flights from Solapur to Mumbai on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

By Train

Solapur is one of the largest train junctions on the Mumbai-Chennai, Mumbai-Hyderabad lines and is one of the five divisions of the Central Railway Zone of the Indian Railways. It is connected by direct trains to many important cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, Vijayawada etc. Solapur is also a terminal point of the Solapur-Bijapur line. By Road

Solapur is well connected by road with major cities of Maharashtra as well as the adjoining State Capital of Hyderabad and important cities in Karnataka by three National Highways - NH-9 connecting Pune with Vijaywada via Hyderabad, NH-13 connecting Solapur to Mangalore, Karnataka and NH-211 connecting Solapur to Dhule.There are also numerous state and country routes that pass through Solapur. And connected to some cities like Siddipet, Karimnagar, Warangal etc. daily.

Ratnagiri-Nagpur National highway NH-204 connects Solapur to important cities of Maharashtra like Nagpur, Sangli, Kolhapur and Nanded.

Siddheshwar Mandir

Solapur is one of the biggest cities in Maharashtra, situated near the borders with Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. It is an ancient historical and religious place with Shri Siddharameshwar as its "Gramadaiwata". Shri Siddharameshwar was a historical figure of the 12th century whose "Karmayoga" on his own native land-Solapur, turned him into a God-figure over the course of time.There was a great saint Shri. Siddarama, who preached the teachings of Shri.Basaweshwara. A young girl, inspired by the teachings of this saint wished to marry the saint. Shri. Siddaram being a brahamachari denied to marry her and gave permission to marry with his Yogadanda. The same marriage function is celebrated every year on the Makar Sankranti for three days on Bhogi, Sankrant and Kinkrant. The Nandi Dhwajas are presumed as Bride and Groom for the marriage. This festival falls around 14th Jan every year. A fare popularly known as Gadda Jatra is arranged for fifteen days during this period.

Tulja Bhavani Temple

Tulja Bhavani Temple is a Hindu temple of Goddess Bhavani. It is located in Tuljapur in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra is considered as one of the 51 Shakti Pithas. It is situated 45  km from Solapur.The temple was built in 12th century CE. A Tulja Bhavani temple was built between 1537-1540 CE in Chittorgarh.The legend has that the face of Goddess Sathi fell here when Vishnu cut her body with the sudarshana chakra while Shiva carried her burnt body across India in grief. That is why, for darshan the alankar is done such like that only the face of Tulja Bhavani is visible.

Chatrapati Shivaji was a devotee of tulaja bhavani. It is widely believed that goddess had bestowed him with a sword. It is popularly known as bhavani talwar, presently it is in London museum.

Akkalkot

Akkalkot is widely known for its association with Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj, held by some to be a reincarnation of Lord Dattatreya. Swami Maharaj lived for over two decades at Akkalkot, mainly at the residence of his disciple Cholappa, where his samadhi and shrine are now located. The shrine complex, which is known the Vatavruksh Mandir since it encloses the banyan tree beneath which the swami would preach his message, is the hub of devotions for his followers. Free accommodation and meals are provided to pilgrims by the Shri Swami Samarth Annachhatra Mandal. The other local shrine is the samadhi of Akkalkoth Swami located some distance from the main shrine, but still within the city limits.

Naldurg fort

Naldurg fort is one of the important ground forts in the Marathawada region. It represents a fine example of the medieval architectural style.It is believed that the fort was built by Nalaraja (The King Nala). The fort and the city is named after him. The fort was built in the period of the Chalukya kings of Kalyani. Later, from 1351 to 1480, in the period of the Bahamani kings and in 1558, the Adil Shahi rulers constructed the massive fortification wall of the fort. In 1613, Ibrahim Adilshah II built the weir on the river Bori and constructed Pani Mahal.The main entrance gate of the fort is known as Hulmukh Darwaza. The protective walls have 115 massive bastions. The chief bastions are named Paranda, Upli, Sangram and Nav Buruj. Upli Burug is the highest place in the fort. Cannons are placed on these bastions to this day.These cannons have figures of elephants and crocodiles and are therefore called Hathi Thop and Magar Thop. There are some old buildings still standing in good condition.

Bhagvant Temple

Bhagvant Temple is dedicated to Shri Vishnu. The uniqueness of this temple is that, this is the only temple of Shri Vishnu all over India having Shri Vishnu’s name as Bhagavant.The temple is build in Hemadpanthi style in the year 1245 A.D. There are four entries to the temple from all the four directions, but the main entry is east-facing.There are old records showing the grants released by Shri Nanasaheb Peshve in the year 1760, by East India Company in 1823 and by British Government in 1784.There is one GARUDKHAMB in front of Garbhagraha. The idol of main deity Shri Bhagvant is in black stone having SHANKH, CHAKRA andGADA is in the hands and picture of devotee king Ambrish below the right hand. Shri Laxmi is on the back of Bhagvant idol. Shivlinga is there on the forehead and marks of Footsteps of Bhrigu Rishi on the chest of the deity.

Solapur Science Centre

Solapur Science Centre was inaugurated on 14 February 2010 and is dedicated to the people of Mahrahstra. The centre is an institute dedicated to popularising Science and Technology to the people. The centre has several facilities which are aimed at creating interst in the field of science and technology and enthuse students in the field of science. The exhibits at this centre are designed to be mostly interactive where visitors can operate and understand the underlying scientific principles. This is the 3rd Science Centre in Maharashtra, after Nehru Science Centre in Mumbai and Raman Science Centre, Nagpur.
